After School Art Classes
With the new year well under way, I'm now accepting enrollments for my 2017 term one art classes.
I'm really looking forward to the classes this term, with an exciting range of activities planned. The theme is nature, using botanical drawing as a starting point. We'll be sketching, using oil pastels and working with wool - dyeing it and then wet felting.
Things are happening a bit differently to normal because I currently have renovations under way at my house. Instead of teaching in a building site, I've been offered a space in Korokoro Wednesday afternoons. The classes are staying small, and the space is lovely (Thanks Libby!).
The class is for children aged 7 and up. The cost is $200 per child for the whole 10 week term. All materials are provided. The classes run from 3.30-5 p.m.
If you'd like to enroll your child please email me at dorapapersart@gmail.com or call 027 407 5098
If you'd like to know a little more about my teaching, read this post or email/call me.

Literature for you ears
My book earrings are real mini books, with readable text (mostly poetry) inside. I get a lot on questions about the range of book earrings I make. This page has a few of the answers, but do get in contact if you have more questions, or would like to purchase some.
These earrings are my own design, the covers are my own marbling, and I also hand stitch the books in a simple book binding.
Covers
Because the covers are hand marbled the range of colours I have available is constantly changing but I do always have a wide range of colours available - just ask for details, or tell me a few colours and I'll let you know what I have on hand! I also am happy to make custom colours, but do allow a month to get the marbling done.
Text
I can make custom poems, but like the custom marbling, it does add a bit of time (normally a week). Below is a list of poems I have ready to make. Ordering from this list with an already marbled cover means your order will take no more than 10 working days to complete. If you want a pair in a hurry I do have a range made up already for immediate postage.
Shakespeare Sonnets 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 56, 104, 105, 116, 129, 130
Emily Dickenson - Hope is the Thing with Feathers
Lewis Carroll - The Jabberwocky
Rudyard Kipling - The Thousandth Man
Song of Solomon 4:1-7
William Ernest Henley - Invictus
Catullus - Viviamus mea Lesbia
Robert Frost - The Road not Taken

Gift Hutt Marbling Workshops 2016
I'm very excited to tell you all that this year I'm running marbling workshops at Gift Hutt, Lower Hutt on the second Saturday of the month. They will cover a range of marbling techniques as well as various cool things you can make with your marbled papers.
February 13th we'll be marbling and making origami dresses out of marbled paper. You'll have the opportunity to make a few of these delightful cards, and take home your own marbled paper to make even more.
March is a deeper look at marbling, including making friskets (cut out images to form silhouette pictures) and other pictorial marbling.
April I'm planning to return to card making in addition to the marbling, adding other embellishments such as quilled flowers.
May will include my popular simple bookbinding class, where everyone gets to make simple stitched notebooks and marble their own cardstock to make unique covers.
The workshops run from 2 - 3.30 p.m in the back room of Gift Hutt (136 High St) and cost $25 each.
The workshops are for everybody! Children and adults. If the children are 7 years old or older no adult supervision is needed, but all parents are welcome to stay and observe. If you would like to take part as well, please say so when registering as it effects class numbers and equipment.
To sign up email me (dorapapersart@gmail.com) or contact Gift Hutt.

Information about after-school art classes
I teach after-school art classes for children at my place in
Mahina Bay. If you are interested in your children attending, have any
questions or would like to receive my emails about these classes send me an
email (dorapapersart@gmail.com).
If you are looking for information on my Gift Hutt Marbling Workshops, go here.
My classes run weekly, by the school term. Group classes
(2-5 children) are $20 per child per week, normally an hour and a half long. I
also run individual hour long classes for $30. Most of my classes are for
children aged 7 and up, but I do occasionally run ones for younger children
too.
My main focus with these art classes is to give children an
opportunity to have fun and experiment with art.
I pick at least four different
mediums each term (generally acrylic paint, oil or soft pastel and pencil/charcoal,
with some form of print making, marbling or sculpture every few terms), and
cover some basics of technique, colour theory and composition, usually using a
couple of artists as examples and inspiration.
Because my class sizes are very
small, all lessons are tailored to individual abilities and interests. I also
have an overarching term theme to capture imagination – mainly for those
moments when you can’t think what to draw!
For 2017, the term two theme is sketching animals. Lots of fun pencil, charcoal and pastel work! My Tuesday class has also dived off into model making, and is working with salt ceramic and card building amazing 3d sculptures.

Classwork collages
Here's some of the amazing work from my term three and four after school art classes last year.
Term four's theme was jungles and desserts, and we all spent a lot of time looking at Rousseau's jungle paintings. These pictures are done with acrylic paint, soft pastel and charcoal. |
The weather cooperated with a few fine days for marbling, and I got a new marker-airbrush kit the kids used with great success |
Term three's theme was mermaids and sea-monsters. Lots of fantastic water scenes made with soft and oil pastel. Can you spot the Hokusai influence? |
Finally polymer clay and mixed-media dioramas, all photography and photo-editing also done by the kids! |
